| I imported a 40 GB MXF 4K file and dropped it into a new comp, and invoked RAM-Preview. It loaded up 2 min. and 45 sec. All three of my RAM gauges where showing different amounts of RAM being used, but the Ae Memory Preferences > Details shows that Ae is using 219 GB. That satisfies my curiosity. I had set Ae to reserve 12 GB for other apps.
Thanks for the tip about Memtest.
Grab the Memtest v8 free edition (it has DDR4 support): I’m trying to run out of RAM as fast as possible.
I got a new MacPro with 256GB of RAM, and I’m trying to load test my RAM. The reason is that if it’s going to fail, I want it to happen when I’m not facing a deadline.
I already returned my first 256GB kit to OWC because something failed on Day 2. BTW, great service from them. They overnighted a replacement kit.
What’s a best way to do this?
Something like an 8K comp with noise applied to a solid?
I’ve tried a few things, but so far unable to get past having 123 GB or so free. A few attemps, Ae just stopped RAM-previewing while I still had plenty of RAM to spare.
The GPU can be stressed by playing highly compressed H.264 codecs in Premiere. The CPU can be stressed by running Render Garden.
I found a freeware app called XRG that graphs CPU, GPU, RAM, and other functions. I also have iStat Menu installed.
