Good idea - I don’t consider expressions enough.

Locking individual masks is awesome, but try and select across a bunch of mask keyframes and you’re likely to move the layer accidentally. I’d have lock boxes for both Effects and Transform.

One hack is to add an expression with the current transform values.

I often do this for opacity.

If I have a bunch of keyframes on opacity I just an expression that is “100’ then my layer will always be at 100% regardless if the keyframes. Once I’m done I can disable the expression.

I can understand this too, because locking a layer is too restrictive. If a layer is locked, you can’t click on it and use keyboard shortcuts to reveal effects and other transform properties - even just to look at them. It’s so 2nd nature to click on a layer and press ‘e’ to see the effects, or ‘p’ to show it’s position.  If it’s locked you can’t do that.

So are you proposing that you can lock the transform properties only?  You could extend this feature request to be able to lock individual aspects of a layer, and not the entire layer itself.  You could lock the effects but not transforms, for example… or just lock the masks.  It would be less frustrating that the current lock feature.

Th entire time I’ve used After Effects (quite a while), I’ve wanted a check box to lock transforms on a layer, so that when I started getting tired and suddenly realize that I’ve been holding the arrow key down for the past thirty seconds, I’m not sending my base layer into outer space.
