Rick,

Well that sure is some plug in there!  Sounds like something I'd like for this or other things.  The only reservation I'd have for this project is it seems fantastic to "lock" down and map to face but not sure it has the animation characteristics to make the mustache move like in my example.  It's fairly locked in place now and I used Mocha and a stabilized precomp (Mocha Import) to do that.

The trouble I'm having is with the animation.

For that kind of shot I would highly recommend Lockdown. It’s the only sure fire way that I know of to map something like that mustache to the face.

Here’s the info:

The whole project will take you about 15 or 20 minutes with this script/plug-in. It paid for itself the first time I used it.

Well, some progress but seems this should be far easier than I'm making it.

I think it comes down to that keyframe graph editor but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out what or how to adjust.  This smoothed out a tad by having two extra layers of mustache on the dude (me) and offsite by a frame.

Hahahaha, If that doesn't work you can give a displacement map precomp a try as well. Might have some better results :).

Well Robert,

The only reason for not using that is not THINKING of it. :)  I'll check that out too.

Is there any reason why you aren't using the bulge plugin, placing the center a tad under the mustache, cranking up the power with some taper on it and keyframing the center to move from left to right?

Thanks Rachel,

To better understand on the "not enough transform points", can you elaborate?  Since that used Mesh Warp, are you suggest adding more rows and columns?  (2 and 8 now).

Hi Eric - I’m just catching up here but my opinion is you don’t have enough transform points (pos x, y and rotation) to make this look realistic and timing is off - should be faster.

You don’t need fancy plugins for this.

Compositing might also need some thought.

Keep at it - Rachel

For those still tracking this, here is a very crude snippet of what I'm doing.  I just wanted to see if I could do the effect note in Doritos Commercial with Sam Elliott.

As you can see, the smoothness is horrid.  I've tried every suggestion so far here and it is still very jumpy.

I don’t have that effect.  It looks like it could be useful for warping your mustache.  There are a few tutorials on aescripts on how to work it.

Thanks Curtis. I actually have that.  Would that do it? Never have used it yet.

Something like this?

That's exactly what I began with.  :) but then it wasnt smooth so might have to try that again.

I wish there was a way to use a mask as a path except path but keep the object static and just morph with a curved mask.
