I still have the problem on and off although the latest patch seems to be more stable plus I moved from a Quadro to a RTX GPU which may have been a factor.

Can you check your version? This was a big problem for me with 17.0 but I thought they had fixed it. However i did have this issue a week ago with 17.0.1 when I changed the preview preference to show nulls during the preview… so there might be a few gremlins left in there.
