Hi Phil

You are correct, and i remember wrong... it is when the renderer  is set to Software that Prores444 files fail to show... but also only when they have embedded audio.

If you need to use Software mode, i can force it to work by first setting the Project to GPU, import the files, open them in the footage panel, then change back to Software mode and they will decode and show up correctly.
A bit weird workaround, but seems to work.

Another workaround is just to use v16.1, i'm very grateful that Adobe has kept the project file format compatible for the last many releases, so its no problem opening v17 projects in v16.1 :-)

Robert

Ok... so I found a workaround... If enable GPU rendering and purge my cache it works fine….

If GPU is disabled it doesn’t work at all.

Is the files Prores444 or Prores XQ444?

There is a bug with AE reading those files if its set to CUDA GPU renderer in project settings. Setting it to software mode fixes it for now, so im currently fully working in software mode when using the latest AE version because of this bug.

Wow... we just hit a weird bug in AE 2020 v17.02 (build 26) we can no longer read ProRes QT files produced by the Alexa Mini camera.

These files open perfectly in AE 2019 and in Premiere / Media Encoder 2020….

My workaround is to run them all through Media Encoder which seems to strip out whatever AE is having the issue with…

Anybody else have issues?
